Word-Free Wednesday
Well, sorta word-free, if you don’t count the captions. I really, really haven’t had time to blog lately, as you can tell by the lack of posts in the last few months. So I guess I’ll sneak in a few photos from Hawaii that I never got around to sharing. At least they’re summer-y (and not dated) and feel appropriate for the time of year… lol. Till next time!
all smiles at Waiola's, the best shave ice ever! even Hawaii's finest say so.
technicolor dream cone
airport-close, a must stop just off the jet from HNL
mmm... poke!
amazing plate lunches, awesome service, and killer poke and roast pork
now that's take-out
food truckin' before it was hip to do so... shrimp at Giovanni's
made to order poke at Ono Seafood
POG (pineapple orange guava juice) and onolicious mac nut pancakes at Boots & Kimo's
the board room
the office
lost
a little scuba fun
Leonard's famous malasadas
hole in the wall morning grinds at Harry's Cafe and the homemade corned beef loco moco

Side Street Inn's fried pork chop
and kimchi fried rice
lapping up Lappert's ice cream
peace out!

Rick,
Gorgeous photos! I wish we could have met up when you were here. Maybe next time. Looks like you ate well.
Truly some of the best photography I have seen. Love Hawaii and you have done it great justice!
Still drooling over your Istanbul photos (and planning a trip there!) and now having fun with your pics in Hawaii. Lovely and whimsical moments captured beautifully.
this post is just breath-taking !
how fun! brings back every awesome memory we’ve made in oahu.
hi rick – don’t worry about a lack of posts (though i do know the feeling…), for every time you come back you never fail to bring us a dazzling set of drop-dead gorgeous images (and perhaps a good read, if we are lucky ). well except sometimes you make me so achingly wish i was there wherever – or eating whatever – you’ve photographed. i so miss hawaii! but thanks for sharing. hope you’re getting to enjoy the summer!

Awesome pics of HI Rick! Makes me feel like I’m looking at a photo book of Hawaii. Makes me miss my family. Sigh….
these photos transport me back to memories of lihing mui shave ice, shrimp trucks w/jammy rice and seagrass mats on the beach. i miss home.
sea, sky, sun… this is life!
I hate you and love you at the same time.
Made a mistake to read this right before lunch, now I’m starving. That slab of roast pork is to die for, thank goodness you only post occasionally
Ah, I love this post. I love the B&W shot of the people with their boards, and how the light reflects off of the girl’s leg. What a great capture.
And I love how you found all the local food. I’m actually housesitting (along with the four kids and dog that belong to said house) for my friends while they attend a funeral on the big island this week. Yesterday, I discovered they had all the ingredients for SPAM Musubi in the cupboards, so I took a shot at making it. I had to ask the ten-year old for help when I got stuck (I really had no idea what I was doing), but it ened up okay.
Just found your blog, and I love it.
Each photo is just amazing and looks somewhat nostalgic. I love the food photographs as well.. as I am so hungry right now lol. Wonderful post
What a wonderfull place you stayed at, and a great post also! Interesting food, and ice cream is my favorite, i must admit I love your stories, wish you write them more offten, cause i enjoy reading them.

Oh, Hawaii, how I miss you. I think, of all the places I’ve lived, Hawaii has the best food — and I’ve lived in France, Japan, both coasts of the mainland U.S.
You hit up all my favorite places Those are some of my “first stops” when I go home to visit the fam!!! Alicias is one of those amazing hidden gems that not many people know about

Love the processing on these photos. So beautiful! I was in Hawaii last August – what a dreamy, lovely place!
Just found your blog via Pinterest (looking for recipes) and DROOLING over all your foodie pics! But these pics of Hawaii are stunning! I’d consider Hawaii my home away from home, I love it that much. How good is Leonards, Side Street Inn, and Ono’s! Yum!
